8/11 Voyaging Vegans

Travel experiences in this vegan journey have been “spotty” at times as Sandy and I have ventured into different cities and circumstances.  I’ve shared some of our humorous and sometimes bittersweet experiences in earlier posts.  After a few attempts, I’ve learned some staple tricks of the trade to plan ahead while traveling, to help set ourselves up for success.  Some of those tips include ones you have seen here before, like surfing HappyCow.com for eating and shopping suggestions, researching the destination area restaurants to find possible veg-friendly meals, calling ahead to the hotel/motel/inn and seeing if they can accommodate us with their designated breakfast or snacks and even bringing some of our own food to prepare, especially if the facility offers a fridge in the room and/or a BBQ for guest use.

But imagine if all of this added effort wasn’t necessary?  What if the place we went to was already veg-friendly and in fact, positioned themselves as such? I have seen ads for vegan B&B’s, resorts, cruises and even the coveted Veg News vegan voyages.   Check out this agenda on an upcoming Veg News “Food lovers” trip to Thailand:

Here are  a few of the scheduled activities:

  • • Eat our way through a vegetarian festival
  • • Take vegan Thai cooking classes
  • • Eat breakfast with monks at a historic temple
  • • Wander through an all-vegetarian market
  • • Visit an artisan tofu maker and spice factory
  • • Island hop and snorkel in the Andaman Sea
  • • Hike in one of the world’s oldest rainforests
  • • Visit a grassroots wildlife rehabilitation center
  • •  Stay on lake houses surrounded by jungle

Evidently they created this trip for me without ever having met me. I feel like I should oblige them and attend.

Have any of you ever taken a vegan trip? Please share your story.  I am very curious about all of the veg trips and experiences. I think it would be wonderful to try one soon.  We could  think of it as a research trip. I think we all  deserve the opportunity to experience our vegan wannabe side in a foreign city or country.

Have a delicious day.

Take my word for it…if you have the opportunity to travel and revel in another culture, do it! It will heighten every one of your senses and creative instincts, and deepen your appreciation and gratitude for all you have and learn in life!

    Nik,
You are so right. Taking yourself out of your comfort zone excites all of your senses in a way that you just cant replicate at home. I would really like to go on this vegan voyage.
