Exploits of a Vegan Wannabe

Meatless Monday

I am  proud and excited to announce that I have joined the Meatless Monday movement to further the message of adopting one meatless meal a week.

You may have heard of Meatless Monday in the media as it has become a more visible campaign as individuals like celebrity chef Mario Batali have supported the mission.   Here is an excerpt from Chef Batali’s interview in the Wall Street Journal:

“Campaigns like “meatless Monday” have also gained momentum. It may be unreasonable to expect everyone to become a vegetarian, but is it such a stretch for Americans to skip meat just one day a week?”   -Chef Mario Batali for The Wall Street Journal

Meatless Monday is a non-profit initiative of The Monday Campaigns, in association with the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. They provide the information and recipes you need to start each week with healthy, environmentally friendly meat-free alternatives. Their goal is to help reduce meat consumption by 15% nationally in order to improve personal health and the health of our planet.

They believe that Monday is the  January of the week, the perfect time for a fresh start. I love that notion and think it is SO true. Every habit I have ever tried to change, adopt or alter has been launched on a Monday. It is the perfect day for a fresh start…a new edible option for great health and c0mpassion. They go on to say, “It’s a call to action built into every calendar – offering 52 chances a year to live a longer, healthier life.”

If all of us dedicated every Monday to meatless meals we would immediately affect great change and that is what it is all about….small steps creating great change.  Join in the movement and bring along your friends and family, it’s only one day, we can all do it together!
