6/8 What, Soy Cheese that isn’t vegan?

The first week of this blog I was grabbing everything I could get my hands on to try and share. In my fervor,  I purchased a package of soy cheese that contains Casein, which is not vegan. At the time, I didn’t know this.

Casein is a protein found in milk. It is used as a binding agent in many things both edible and non edible. Cheese that is labeled lactose free may contain Casein and is therefore not vegan, now I know and am sharing with you.

There is more homework needed on Casein as well.  Some studies of Casein (like the China Study by Dr. T. Colin Campbell) have suggested that there is a link between the protein and causing cancer. Studies have also found that casein has a negative impact on children with autism.

I have added just a few of the links I found while researching about casein.   So lets continue to ask questions, seek information and find new ways to enhance our edible experiences by making informed decisions. Now we know….Casein is not a vegan substance, so check out your soy cheese and read your labels.

I look forward to hearing what you know about Casein.

Have a great day!
