9/21 Let’s Walk For Change

Farm Sanctuary's Walk for Farm Animals: Compassion For AllIn a few weeks Sandy and I will be participating in our local Walk For Farm Animals event to benefit Farm Sanctuary. They host walks all over the country from  September 8th to November 3rd to support the work they do caring for and rescuing  farm animals. In addition to their sanctuary in Watkins Glen, New York, they focus on education and legislative advocacy efforts to benefit farm animals across the country. They are the largest farm animal shelter in North America and a  loud and recognizable  voice in the movement for the compassionate treatment of farm animals.

Images and the following about Farm Sanctuary from their website.

why-we-walk-image1Farm Sanctuary was founded in 1986 to combat the abuses of factory farming and to encourage a new awareness and understanding about farm animals. Through the years, we have rescued thousands of animals, and educated millions of people about their plight. At Farm Sanctuary, these animals are our friends, not our food. Farm Sanctuary remains solidly committed to our mission to end cruelty to farm animals and promote compassionate living through rescue, education and advocacy efforts.

I  walk to raise money and awareness within my sphere of influence.  I walk to visit  a new park in my home state that I have never visited before.  I walk to meet new people that feel passionately about not harming/eating  living things.  I walk because I can and every little bit helps bring us closer to a place where things with hearts, minds and feelings will no longer have to suffer for our palate preferences.  I will walk because it is a relaxing thing to do on a Saturday afternoon.

Fitted Women's T-ShirtI hope you will consider walking in your town too. Every step, every dime, will have an impact and that makes me feel useful and prideful. Pre-event day registration is only $15. When you raise $100 they will adorn you with a really cute t-shirt. Yay.

Here is a link to find the closest walk to you.   Don’t feel like walking but would still like to help? You can Sleep-in for Farm Animals.  What a fun idea.

Have you done it before or are you doing it again? I would love to hear about it. Here is a link to last years post about the walk we attended in Michigan. It was a ball.  Let’s walk for change.

Have a delicious weekend.
